Alanna Roth
The natural world in all its forms and the force that animates it is the inspiration behind Alanna Roth’s art . . . This influence is evident in all her work, from her early biomorphic ceramic vessels to her current figurative bronze.

Shortly before graduating college, she enrolled in a ceramics course to fill an elective requirement and found her passion.  In clay she found the perfect medium for creative expression.  It was malleable and forgiving and had the ability to be transformed into a myriad of new and exciting forms.  From that point on it was goodbye medical school, hello clay!

Though she credits her teachers with helping her to learn technique, she credits her unique style to self-study both in the school of life and in the studio.  “Technical skill is important, but without convincing emotional content, the piece will merely be a visually pleasing object.  It is said that in order for a work of figurative art to be successful it has to have the three H’s: Head, Hand and Heart.  It must ignite a spark of intellectual curiosity, appeal to our sense of beauty through the skill of the artist’s hands and to our hearts through the emotive force of the work.  This is the combination I strive for in my work.”

In addition to her gallery work, Alanna continues to create one-of-a-kind privately commissioned work.  More recently, she moved into the field of public art and has completed two major installations.
